Loving, learning, growing together with Jesus

Reception Home Learning Week Beginning July 20th 2020

Hi children!

We have reached the final week of the school year.  We will miss you all and we know that you’ll all be fantastic in September, whichever class you are going into.  You are all superstars!

A prayer for the end of term

Lord God

You have blessed us in our relationship with you

and with our friends.

Our school has shared many things this past year.

We were linked by common tasks and time together.

This week we say goodbye and end our school year.

This is a time of uncertainty but we give praise and thanks.

Lord bless our students, teachers and staff,

especially those we will not see again.

Keep each of us in your care in the summer holidays.

Guide our steps and strengthen our hearts,

until we gather once again as a school family.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

This is our last online learning message. In September we will all be back in school and you will be in Year 1 so take some time to practise your skills over the summer holidays;

  • Practise reading and writing your Phase 2 & 3 phonemes and tricky words
  • Keep reading Oxford Owls books online
  • Read ‘real’ books, story books and information books. Talk about the plot, characters and settings of story books and ask questions like ‘Why are the characters acting like they are?’ ‘Can you describe the forest?’
  • Write some simple sentences starting with a capital letter, ending with a full stop and separating words with gaps
  • Practise reading, writing and ordering numbers to 20
  • Do some ‘real life’ maths with money or time perhaps

We want you to have lots of fun though and this '50 Things to do...' might give you some ideas.

Mr Barr has asked me to remind you of the importance on being independent in Year 1, this year especially as, because of social distancing, adults will be not be allowed to help children will their self care. Please ensure children are able to;

  • Wash their hands thoroughly
  • Use a tissue for catching coughs and sneezes
  • Use a toilet independently ( including flushing and ensuring the toilet area is left clean and dry)
  • Dress and undress for PE
  • Fasten their own coats/ shoes
  • Use a knife and fork to cut food into small pieces

Remember on the first day back after the holidays (2nd September) you will come back to your old Reception class, just for the morning before you go to your new Year 1 class. If you have not received a letter about arrangements for next year please contact the school office by Friday 24th July.

To finish off we would like to say a great big thank you to parents and carers for all your support this year and to all the lovely children, our Class of 2020, thanks for the wonderful memories and good luck in your next steps!  You are all stars!

Have a wonderful, safe, happy and healthy summer break.
