Phonics Screening in Year 1

Year 1 phonics results this year were 71% met the expected standard as opposed to 80% in 2016.  We feel as only 66% of children achieved the early learning goal for reading and only 56% of children achieved the early learning goal for writing this still reflects the good and systematic phonics teaching which the children received as now 71% met the expected standard in the screening.

In 2017, 96% of children left Year 2 having achieved the expected standard in the phonics screening check in either Year 1 or Year 2. 78.3% of children who retook the check in Year 2 achieved the expected standard. This is over a 50% raise on the previous year and well above the national average.  This has been achieved through a systematic approach to teaching phonics in all year groups and targeted support where it is needed. In Year 2, children who did not pass the check in Year 1 received small group targeted support led by an experienced teacher and regularly reviewed by senior leaders.

 

Foundation Stage

Percentage of children achieving a good level of development at the end of foundation stage. In order to achieve a good level of development, children must achieve the Early Learning Goals in PSE, physical development, communication and language, reading, writing, shape space and measure and number.
